Appearance:
Safo is only a little larger than average in height, build, and proportions as far as red wolves go, which means she’s likely on the small side compared to the rest of the pack. Those that aren’t familiar with her particular breed might mistake her for a mostly grown, malnourished pup. She has a limp in her front right leg caused by an old injury - the bones in her shoulder were broken while running from a stampede and a healer arrived too late to fix the damage completely. The injury remains visible to this day; a deformity that’ll surely keep her out of the higher ranks, but one that hasn’t hindered her to the point of exile or omega status. The limp disrupts an otherwise light, almost bouncy gait.
Safo’s pelt is primarily a rusty red color mottled with salt-and-pepper, with the mottling more prominent on her top – from the top of her head down her neck and back and on her tail. Her underside is white, as are the toes on her front legs and the bottom halves of her hind legs. Her eyes are a bright golden color, and often hold a crazed look when she’s anticipating a fight or a hunt.
Temperament:
Safo tries to come off as charming and lovable. It’s up to the individual to determine whether or not she succeeds. She is generally a sweet wolf, sincerely caring and loyal, quiet but friendly, and eager to please. She doesn’t play as much as a wolf her age might, unless it’s in the water, and she is sure to take it easy if there’s going to be a hunt or a fight in the near future. She always makes sure to pull her weight in the pack, however. Her main desire is to prove to the pack that she will not be a burden, despite her bad shoulder.
With no hope of ever being higher ranked than a normal pack member, Safo’s ambitions involve getting on the higher-ups’ good sides. She is respectful and obedient, always willing to listen if someone needs to talk, and happy to provide a distraction from life if needed. She herself tries not to let life get her down. After all, she’s lucky that she even survived this long, and she can work around her personal difficulties.
Safo enjoys company from wolves of both genders and all ages. When it comes to friendship, she prefers the older and calmer wolves to the younger and energetic ones, since she has a hard time keeping up with the latter. When it comes to romance…she feels as though no one would ever think of her as a worthy mate, but she’d be happy with whatever romantic attention any single male pays her.
History:
Safo started life as a happy, playful little pup. Born to normal-ranking wolves but raised with the whole pack along with other litters conceived that year, she had no shortage of playmates. Her early years were of playtime, learning, and sparring among the others her age to see where she would stand in the pack when she came of age. She wasn’t the alpha or the beta of the pups, but she was among the more dominant and proud that she could at least count herself among the strongest of the generation.
When the pups came of age, they were taken out on a training hunt. It was supposed to be an easy, uneventful hunt that would end with food for the pack. The most dominant pup was put in charge of selecting the prey, however, and selected a young fawn as their target. Not a problem for most situations, but the mother was more protective than some might be and the attack resulted not in fleeing, but in the entire herd running toward the young wolves. Everyone made it out of the stampede alive, but Safo received a brutal kick to the shoulder as she darted toward a crevice between two rocks. Once the danger passed, one of the pups ran for help, but their hunt led them far away from the dens, and by the time a healer came along it was too late to set the bones just right. He was a talented healer and did the best he could, and it’s thanks to that that Safo is still able to walk and fight at all.
The happy-go-lucky pup changed into a brooding, quiet one after that incident, and it was some time before her old personality began to shine through. Her pack helped her to recover, and her siblings kept her spirits up, encouraging her as she regained strength in her injured limb and cheering for her when she returned victorious from a hunt several months later. She would never be the strongest or swiftest wolf, but she could hold her own and contribute to the pack as much as anyone else and that was reason enough for them to celebrate.
The pups grew into adults, and it came time for most of them to disperse. Safo was among the wolves that had chosen to seek their destiny elsewhere. The pack was worried for her and tried to convince her not to go, but she assured them that she would be fine and – in the end – they relented, with some giving her advice for living with an unknown pack. So she left her parents’ pack and wandered out into the unknown, eventually coming across and joining the Eastern pack.
Other: She was a beta on the old site, but can we pretend that didn't happen? I have an alpha female, and I'll have two if we're still doing the Ellis plots. I don't want to hog so many high positions.
